Prefab Homes Endure Weather Better

If you’ve been contemplating making the switch to a modular home or office building, listen to this: FEMA says that modular houses are safer than site-built ones.  They investigated the hurricane-prone area of sunny Florida and found that modular homes fared better in hurricanes than on-site homes, for several reasons:

  1. Expert Craftsmanship

Imagine if it were your job to complete crossword puzzles all day long.  Don’t you think you’d get pretty good at it after a while?  It’s the same with a construction worker whose job is to build secure roofs, day in and day out.  Not only would it become second nature to him, but he would also pick up on a problem much quicker than someone who only built a roof once every few months.

Every crew member who works on a modular building operates in that same way: because it’s his designated position, he perfects and nurtures his craft so that no errors fall through the cracks.  He becomes an expert in his own right, and that’s what keeps these houses so safe.

  1. Frequent Inspections

Manufacturers subject their modular home builders to at least one specialized inspection during each stage of the building process, whereas site-built homes only undergo one run-through at the end of construction.  Modular buildings are held to the same standards that govern high-end manufacturing like airplanes and other technical fields, but inspectors for on-site homes often lack genuine licensure.  These faux inspectors are expected to review the entire building from top to bottom, including all the electrical and plumbing aspects, on their own: it’s no wonder conventional houses fall apart during hurricanes!

  1. Superior Design

Due to the fact that modular building structures are built to endure the commute from factory to site, they often possess stronger structures and designs overall.  FEMA calls it an “inherently rigid system.”  Able to resist wind speeds up to 155mph, modular homes are a pretty safe bet during a thunderstorm.

With this in mind, feel free to contact Nashua Builders for any more of your questions and concerns.  With only the highest quality materials and staff, we pride ourselves in fortifying the safety of your prefabricated home. Say goodbye to wind-blown roofs!
